Charapak Help 'Wipe Out' Swine Flu

Corrugated packaging and display manufacturer Charapak has designed and manufactured shelf ready packaging and floor standing display units for the UK’s first Swine Flu prevention hand and surface wipe from Kingfisher Healthcare. Due to the urgency of the project, Charapak was able to deliver 20,000 shelf ready displays within just ten days of receiving the initial enquiry from Kingfisher, with the floor units delivered the following week.

The new antiseptic wipes are dermatologically tested and proven to kill the AH1N1 Swine Flu virus plus 99.9% of bacteria, viruses and fungi. In an exclusive retail agreement with leading hygiene manufacturer Pal® International, Kingfisher has introduced the wipes in industry, family and travel packs. Given the current level of concern among consumers, effective Point of Sale display and merchandising was critical, but it was equally vital that there was minimum delay in getting the product into the market.

Kingfisher first approached Charapak about its Point of Sale requirements on 20th July. Thanks to the fact that Charapak offers a complete design and manufacturing service, the company was able to turn the entire project around in the fastest possible time. Prototypes were created within a day of the initial briefing, with full artwork prepared the day after approval of the design. Seven days later the first 20,000 shelf ready units were delivered to Kingfisher and a week after that the floor standing displays were completed and delivered.

The shelf ready displays hold 12 travel packs, each of which contains 25 wipes. The floor standing units can hold both the travel pack and the larger 75 wipes family container.

Both designs are manufactured in 210gsm litho sheet, mounted onto E flute for the retail ready counter displays and EB flute for the floor displays. They are printed in four colours with machine varnish, and the graphics echo the design of the individual packs.

“Time was a critical factor in this project and Charapak’s ability to handle everything in-house was a major benefit,” comments Ian Fisher of Kingfisher Healthcare. “The fact that the company specialises in both shelf ready packaging and POS displays made the entire process much simpler and more straightforward, with all communications and decisions channelled through a single point of contact. The service we received was exemplary and we not only met all our deadlines but the final results are very high quality packaging and display materials.”

John Halston, Commercial Manager for Charapak, said the project had been extremely rewarding. “We pride ourselves in being able to meet tight deadlines and fast turnarounds but there is undoubtedly added satisfaction in being able to get such an important product to market so quickly.”
